I’m Takuya Iwasaki. Through Rokugeisha, I analyze policy data and open data, create visualizations, and build web tools.

I’m interested in the relationship between learning and work, and in how people develop expertise. I start with questions of my own, examine the data, and build tools to help me think them through. I want to share what I find—and what I still don’t understand—in ways that make it possible to discuss them with others.

This site is where I share the tools, analyses and research notes that come out of that work.

Background

• 1990s: Taught mathematics and developed computer-based learning materials, designing them around how learners think and understand.
• 2001: Founded Rokugeisha in Sapporo. Started with university communications, then expanded into web development, research communications and science communication.
• 2010–2019: Worked in research communications and research support at Osaka University. During this period, studied university management and policy at the University of Tokyo’s graduate school, earning a master’s degree. In 2018–2019, also served as a senior science and technology policy fellow at the Cabinet Office and contributed to the launch of e-CSTI.
• 2020–2024: Worked on Cabinet Office e-CSTI activities at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, analyzing and visualizing science and technology policy data and developing the infrastructure for that work.
• 2025 onward: Continues to work on e-CSTI while, through Rokugeisha, using data to explore questions about learning, work and expertise, and developing analyses and tools.
